Shareholder
The owner of shares, i.e. the shareholder of a joint-stock company. The shareholder has the right to information about the operation of the company and may attend the company’s general meeting, where he can take part in the decision-making regarding fundamental issues of the company’s activities to the extent determined by the size of his stake (number of shares held). For the shareholding he acquires the right to a dividend (share in the profits of the company) as well as the right to an adequate proportion of liquidation surplus. A majority shareholder holds the majority of the company’s shares.
